EFTO - Empowering Faculty to Teach Online
Podcast, blog, and professional learning network for instructors to support and inspire each other to improve their online teaching practices.
The past decade has seen an explosion in the number of students taking online courses.
Instructors do not receive enough support from their institutions in revising or developing their online courses.
Strategies for teaching online are not intuitive. What works Face to Face (F2F) doesn't necessarily work online.
The podcast consists of 10 - 15 minute long episodes that feature interviews with expert online instructors who can describe these small, actionable steps that every online instructor can take to enhance their online or blended learning courses. This way, EFTO can accumulate a library of content that is free not only for members of the PLN but anyone searching for strategies that can help them to enhance their online course.
The blog will supplement each podcast episode by summarizing the main takeaways, i.e., actionable solutions that listeners can apply to their situations. Blog posts will be published immediately following the release of an episode and will include “show notes”, which consist of links to articles, tools, websites, and other resources referenced during the episode.
Users can become a part in the EFTO community by joining its professional learning network. The goal is for instructors to enter a space where they can connect and learn with others, as well as discover exciting new information and opportunities they might not have originally been seeking (Trust, Carpenter, and Krutka 2017, p. 2).By joining EFTO, they can communicate with one another to share resources related to online learning, ask each other questions, and respond to each others’ posts
You can experience the high-fidelity prototype that comprise's EFTO's website. By going eftouniverse.com, you can join the EFTO community and poke around in a few of the pages I've created there. You can also listen to the podcast episode, I recorded with Dr. Vanessa Dennen on how to teach online during COVID19 (more on that below).

As part of the concept-testing phase, I recorded a podcast with Dr. Vanessa Dennen, professor of Instructional Systems & Learning Technologies (ISLT) in the Department of Educational Psychology & Learning Systems at Florida State University. In this episode, Dr. Dennen shares her wealth of knowledge about teaching online for faculty who are just starting to make the transition from the Face to Face environment. She explains why instructors should think "People first. Content Second. and Technology Third."
